JANUARY 15, 2004 - You've read it
here. There were a record number of personal
bankruptcies. The entire non-M/I media reports,
"recovery." President Bush proposes an American worker-
attacking, Latino-exploiting plan, the entire non-M/I media prints
his, "This is good for the Latino immigrant community
comments."
It is endless and constant. The President is
caught having planned the Iraq war months before 9/11, showing all
the justifications he gave to be lies. The media reports,
"President Says He Wants To Go To The Moon."
Just like that. They forget, ignore, move
on.
Many Americans have been baffled how President
Bush can not only get away with clear, heinous, obvious lies like
"Clear Skies," "Healthy Forests," "We have found the WMDs," but
actually prosper and gain more and more power by telling them.
And the answer all comes down to one thing: the utter
right-wing domination of the entire non-M/I media.
The Bush/Limbaughians have taken advantage of the
basic non-M/I media setup, namely that they will report whatever an
official candidate or officeholder says, no matter how provably
dishonest it is, because to them not doing so would show
partisanship. Even more, they won't go on to say it is clearly
dishonest, as that would seem partisan, in their minds.
And so the Bush/Limbaugh Republicans have
exploited this all the way to total domination, not just of the
media, but now of the government. President Bush can do
whatever he wants, the media will cover for him.
This is the lynchpin of President Bush's and the
Bush/Limbaughians' hold on power. Without the media bias,
Americans would not have the debates, "Is it a recovery? How
could anyone question that the President is doing great on national
security? Don't you think the Republicans will get a larger
share on the Latino vote?" None of these nonsensical questions
would ever come up, and Americans would simply see the actual
record.
And the record is clear: massive
unemployment, massive deficits, allowing 9/11 to happen on his
watch, launching us into a provably unnecessary and unjustified war,
increasing pollution, alienating us from the world, attacks on
American worker jobs and wages and immigrants. These are all
simple facts.
If the President couldn't just go to NBC, ABC,
CNN, FOX, any news source he chooses and have them instantly follow
his lead to shift attention to a new space race, a fake Latin
initiative, or to simply echo his lies, "Things are great," he would
be done in a second. Every single one of his arguments and
tactics are useless without this media complicity.
And yet, not a single Democratic Presidential
hopeful has made this an issue, never mind the number one
issue. In fact, this is the only issue actually facing the
nation at the moment, and the only issue in the upcoming election
cycle. Not one insulted the media today as it ignored Paul
O'Neil's recent charges against the President after very short
shrift and gave lots of play to Mars voyages. Not one
candidate took the media on for this.
It is clear they don't get it yet. The
grumble a bit here and there. Both Clark and Kerry have
acknowledged that the media ignored them a lot. Yet they let
it happen and never complained or assailed the media for doing
so. Every day they all see the lies and cover stories and fake
initiative names and they assail President Bush for it, but not the
media that supports him.
And this is just mainstream non-M/I media.
The Democratic Party doesn't even begin to deal with the permanent,
24-hour-a-day lying propaganda network setup just to attack their
party and promote Bush/Limbaughians. Democrats throw some
millions at 30-second TV spots, while the Republicans get 24-hour a
day TV, print, and radio advertising free of charge. And no
matter how heinous or constant the assaults, the Democrats let it go
unanswered.
And so President Bush can continue to go on doing
whatever heinous, destructive things he wants, because the media has
his back covered. As long as this setup is allowed to
continue, no matter how bad things get, the Bush/Limbaughians will
only increase their hold on power.
The solution is simple.
First, good Americans have to speak up. If
the Democratic Party decided to make it the front and center issue
it is, and hammer away every day, it would change, period.
Even just briefly complaining has an effect. Calling this
setup out as it is would both force the media to readjust and, most
importantly, alert the American people to what is going on, because
the reality is if the Democrats don't complain, they assume
everything is fair. Even worse, they hear the Republicans
complain that the media is "liberal" biased.
Most Americans would be shocked to hear someone
point out the media is entirely right-wing biased, at first.
But they would start watching to see, and if pointed out backed up
by clear facts, they would see.
The second step is to find alternative news
sources, such as The Moderate Independent, and put them out there
with the criticism as resources people can turn to. By both
pointing out there is a problem and leading them to something that
can show them what honesty and actual news reporting should be like,
you change the setup entirely.
As we said, this is the only issue in this next
election and facing our country at the moment. If the
right-wing domination of the media is allowed to continue without a
major attack against it, President Bush and his anti-American
policies will continue to dominate and gain in power. But if
the setup is attacked, the game is over. The media domination
is the glue that holds the Bush/Limbaughian house of cards
together. Take away the glue, and everything will come
crashing down instantly, as it is all built on the thinnest of lies
and the structure itself is designed to entirely implode without the
media/glue's assistance and support.
As of now, the current state of the union is that
of cowardly, voiceless, oblivious subservience to a thinly-veiled
web of media lies - except for those of you who come here to get
your news from M/I. The state of the union is not, "on the
verge of a great space age," the state of the union is not, "strong
on the national defense front." The state of the union, quite
simply, is disinformed.
We at M/I are striking a blow directly at the
right-wing media domination, helping to return our country back from
the Bush/Limbaughians to the people. And we are having great
success, having grown so much so quickly thanks to you helping
spread the word and sending us contributions - we had never even
asked for financial support, but people are so happy to have us
around that they started writing and asking us how they could
contribute. It has truly been astounding. By spreading
the word and helping us grow, you are striking a great blow for
America.
Now, it would be nice if anyone in the political
realm - any single person - were to acknowledge and take on the one
issue that ensures their defeat if they don't. |
