DID SOMEBODY ACTUALLY SAY “LIAR”?

.

The "L" word is out of the bag about W.

Until now, the press has been avoiding the “Liar” label as best they could.  But I believe the, “We have found the Weapons of Mass Destruction,” comment the President made in Poland finally crossed the line and gave indisputable evidence of the President’s flat out penchant for purposefully misleading deception.  The question used to be whether or not President Bush was dumb or shrewd, whether he misspeaks or lies.  Now the question, as stated by Slate’s Timothy Noah in his current Chatterbox column, is, “Can Bush Be Both Ignorant and a Liar?”

From the NY Times to Newsweek, the press is beginning – not to question whether or not President Bush has lied – but to assert that, no, there is no question, the evidence is too clear. Whether you are talking about the AmeriCorps program the President promised to increase by 50 percent but instead let get slashed in half, or about the WMD’s, the press is simply beginning to lay the evidence out and say our question has been answered.  The President is a liar.

To be certain, most of the press is still not able, willing, or doesn’t care to point out even this obvious lie as being a lie.  “We have found the Weapons of Mass Destruction,” said the President a few weeks back..  The reality, as we all know, is that no one on any side of things is even pretending to claim we have found even a single milligram of WMDs.  So, the President’s lie on this occasion finally was too clear and went too far for some.  While the rest of the corporate-owned-and-operated press kicks over, “Did the President exaggerate intelligence, misrepresent things to support his desired positions?”  a contingent could not avoid the obvious reality – that the President is still doing it now.

Whether or not the weapons exist, whether or not, if they do exist, they are ever found, for many people this statement has become a watershed moment.

“We have found the Weapons of Mass Destruction.”

The nation is extremely polarized at the moment.  There is a massive perception gap that is truly amazing, and it all comes down to one thing - do you believe W, or do you think he is a liar?

I have never seen a party as united and behind their leader as the Republicans currently are, but Bush is very much a threshold president at the moment - you are strongly for him, unless you lose your faith in his honesty, then you think there is nothing more important than getting him out of office - like with Rand Beers, his former top counter-terrorism advisor, who quit the NSC after 35 years of serving 4 presidents of both parties because he deemed it the most important thing for the security of the nation to get President Bush out of office and another candidate in – in his case, he believes John Kerry is the man.

In a time of “War”, the nation likes to stand together – people like to rally behind their President.  They don’t like the press or their countrymates to question him.  They want to believe they can trust him, can’t imagine a President would truly lead the nation to war based on lies.

“We have found the Weapons of Mass Destruction.”

Even to this day, the President has no cover for this statement, no place to hide from the glaring dishonesty of his words.  Still, not a single milligram has been found.

There comes a moment in every addict’s life when he crosses the line and those who supported his using, manipulative ways finally see things for what they are.  It is known as an, “It’s Jack Daniels or me,” moment.

During the course of the first election, when talking about his years of daily, black-out alcoholic drinking and his decision to quit, the President said, “It wasn’t a, ‘It’s Jack Daniels or me,’ moment.”  He said he just decided alcohol was interfering with his duty to his family.  In other words, Laura told him, “It’s Jack Daniels or me.”

Maybe.  It’s hard to imagine there wasn’t an occasion that finally led Laura Bush to draw the line and tell George, “It’s Jack or me.” We may never know.  Was it a lie so heinous?  Abusiveness?  Missed yet another of his daughter’s school functions?  Crashed the car again?  Lost one too many job?  Failed in his financial responsibilities one too many times?  A 40 year-old man who, by his own admission would go out most nights and get black-out drunk with the boys.  After years of accepting this, finally, Laura had enough.

The press accepted that this wasn’t the case, that Georgie was just no longer thirsty all of a sudden.

The President has been leading the nation on reckless adventure after reckless adventure, all the while maintaining the support of the press that loves him.  The economy is destroyed through irresponsible, destructive policy.  “Not our Georgie’s fault,” his family of corporate media says.  He ignores the Middle East and foreign affairs until Israel is boiling out of control and 9/11 occurs.  “Not his fault,” his media family says.  AmeriCorps is turned into a corpse.  “Not his fault, Congress did it.”  Environmental regulations are heinously rolled back, Global Warming ignored.  “He is doing the right thing.”

But at some point there is a lie that is too clear.  For EPA chief Christie Todd Whitman that moment came some months ago, when she had had enough and tendered her resignation.  For Bush’s top counter-terrorism advisor, that moment came and he fled to lead the charge to get the President out of office.

“We have found the Weapons of Mass Destruction.”

That banner, waving next to the name of the soldiers who keep dying each day, is beginning to eat at the psyche of his supporters.

Why did my son die today?

“We have found the Weapons of Mass Destruction.”

Are you sure his life wasn’t given just for oil?

“We have found the Weapons of Mass Destruction.”

Why did you really send him over there in the first place, when Saddam had no ties to al Queda and possibly no Weapons of Mass Destruction?

“We have found the Weapons of Mass Destruction.”

There is only one indisputable fact of this matter – that we have in fact found the Weapons of Mass Destruction – except they weren’t in Iraq.

“We have found the Weapons of Mass Destruction.”

Yes, the press realizes now that we have.  We now know exactly where they have been hidden all this time. Right inside a big white house located on Pennsylvania Avenue.  The Weapons of Mass Destruction that are being used against America on a daily basis have clearly been found by the American people – and it turns out they are the lies that endlessly, constantly flow from the President’s mouth.

To the Murdoch-owned media, nothing has changed.  But for the rest, who were pulling their punches due to uncertainty, the certainty is clear.

Is Bush a liar?  Is he a moron?  The press' new conclusion is beginning to be, maybe he is both.
