Here is what National Security Advisor
Condoleza Rice said last night on CBS' 60 Minutes: "...we have yet
to find an example of a national security advisor, sitting national
security advisor, who has - been willing to testify on matters of
policy." (see
60 Minutes transcript)
Sounds nice, but here are the simple
facts, as reported back in 2002 by
The Washington Post: "“But others point out that Clinton
national security adviser Samuel R. "Sandy" Berger testified about
Haiti and that his counterterrorism adviser Richard Clarke also
testified. President Ronald Reagan's national security advisers
testified before Congress during the Iran-Contra investigation.”
Josh Marshall is kind enough to indulge
Condi, pointing out how carefully crafted her lie was so as to give
her "out" after "out" after "out." He writes, "To call (Condi
Rice's) explanation tortured is to give human rights abusers a bad
name." (you can read his column, which details word for word how her
lie is crafted here)
But here at M/I we simply call a lie -
however well crafted - a lie. Her actions and intent were to say
things that avoided giving an honest answer. This sort of lying -
using grade school level word games (ie saying, "We have yet to find
an example" so as to be able have cover if they are caught) is the
typical pattern of the dishonest Bush/Limbaughians. Obviously they
are aware of the above two examples, yet Rice is afraid to testify
and needs to tell the lie that it's never been done before or else
she has no excuse at all. So, as is typical with the Bushies, they
simply tell whatever lie necessary, without regard to the fact that
it is provably dishonest, counting on the fact that the media - as
it has been all along - will not hold them accountable on a level
that will make it an issue - the lie will be heard by millions,
while only a small mention of it being "inaccurate" or some other
weakly labeled condemnation will appear briefly, missed by most.
Anyone who doubts that the Bush administration completely lacks
integrity, here is yet another simple piece of evidence to help
bring you to reality. |
