Occasional
guest-writer Jackson Thoreau reports:
"The
indictment and resignation of Scooter Libby is just the beginning.
"Karl Rove is also mentioned in Libby's indictment as "Official A"
who
told Libby that he had talked with columnist Robert Novak about
Valerie Plame and that Novak would be writing a story about Plame.
So
expect Rove to go down eventually. Patrick Fitzgerald is just
building
the case against Rove and possibly others.
"It's actually good news that the indictment process didn't end
today.
It keeps the whole matter open and keeps Rove - and Bush since Rove
is
"Bush's Brain" - squirming.
"Read the 22-page indictment yourself at
http://www.dcd.uscourts.gov/04ms407-I.pdf"
What Thoreau is referring to is this
statement from paragraph 22 of the indictment:
"On or about July 10 or July 11, 2003,
LIBBY spoke to a senior official in the White House ("Official A")
who advised LIBBY of a conversation Official A had earlier that week
with columnist Robert Novak in which Wilson's wife was discussed as
a CIA employee involved in Wilson's trip. LIBBY was advised by
Official A that Novak would be writing a story about Wilson's wife."
If Thoreau's sources are correct, this
puts White House Chief Advisor Karl Rove directly in the center of
the actual source of the leak, Robert Novak's story. Exactly
what "Official A's" role in providing the information of that story
is not made clear in the indictment.
But the indictment states clearly that,
"Wilson's wife was discussed as a CIA employee involved in Wilson's
trip" by Official A, and the Official A knew that the story that
would out her was to come out before it was ever printed.
If that is in fact Karl Rove, that is
very damning, and puts the President's top confidant and advisor at
ground zero of this serious breach of national security.
