Remember back before Bush and Limbaugh, O'Reilly and
Hannity, when conservatives actually were people who stood up for
American values? Yeah, those days, when both liberals and
conservatives stood up for their own version of American values, and
each got it right some of the time.
Well for so long now Bush/Limbaughian faux
conservatives have destroyed the very word conservative and abused the
label to wage one attack after another on American values.
But yesterday, finally, it was like the old days, when
we could actually say, "This time the conservatives are the ones
defending freedom and the liberals are selling it out."
Loosely veiled behind an attempt to claim a defense of
state's rights was as asinine decision by the Supreme Court's liberal
members to allow wealthy developers to take your home if they can get
a city to agree to it - not for the sake of a public need, but just
because they feel they can profit from it.
Yes, you can be sitting in the home your family owned
for centuries, and someone can decide they want to open an office
building and that where you home exists would be a great spot for it,
and if they get the mayor to buy in - according to the Supreme Court's
decision today - they now have a right to bulldoze your home just
because they like the profit the office building may bring.
Never mind your supposed property rights. Never
mind the Constitution. Never mind anything.
No, in a bizarro day of complete reversal of recent
trends, liberals stepped up in defense of wealthy developers and
conservatives - for this shining moment - returned to their roots of
defending America's guaranteed rights and libertarian perspective.
As
reported by MSNBC, it was Scalia, Thomas, Rehnquist, and O'Connor
stood up for us good Americans who believe we still have some rights
in this country, while the libs flipped back to a Carter-era-like
flashback of anti-Americanism.
You have to wonder if this has something to do with the
conservatives realizing a Supreme Court nomination is coming and so
ducking out to get some good PR cover knowing the libs were ready to
sell out on this one. But we deal with only facts and reality,
and the reality is the libs of the court bailed on America and the
Constitution yesterday while the conservatives stood tall in defense
of one of our most basic, vital rights.
Which shows why, despite the total depravity of the
Bush/Limbaughians and their constant attack on everything America
stands for, we remain moderate independents, because faux
conservatives aside, America needs both liberals and conservatives,
varying from instance to instance. In this instance, for once,
we fell a conservative short of what America needed.
One can only look at this ruling and dream that someday
America can return to a country where liberals, conservatives, and
moderates are all honest partners in defending our nation with simply
differing views and values. For a day, we can enjoy what our
nation used to be.
