It was the early 1990's when an unknown,
unattractive would-be propagandist named Rush Limbaugh began a rise
to power and fame by boldly touching his tongue to
the most taboo of third rails in American
society: feminism.
Many don't recall at
this point, but Rush came to prominence not because people cared
what he had to say about policies; not because the nation decided
they like conservatism. No, Limbaugh gained traction and a
following by standing up for a segment of society that had been
castrated in the media: white males. The media, fueled
by the Democratic Party's massive and continual hold on both houses
of Congress which had existed for decades, had rendered off-limits
any criticism of certain policies, in particular those that involved
women or minorities.
Now while no one, at
least openly, would argue that racism or sexism has a place in the
national conversation, legitimate criticisms of American feminism
and social programs that affected minorities, such as welfare, were
deemed untouchable. No one was allowed to dare speak out
against such things without being labeled chauvinist or bigoted.
Rush came onto the scene
and dubbed "political correctness" - a term that would work its way
into the American conversation - as bogus and unacceptable. He
then took it to the next level in dubbing ardent feminists "feminazis."
At last people who
disagreed with feminism - in particular, the American version that
tells women they should be manly and that there is something wrong
with being soft, feminine, and unambitious career-wise - had a
voice.
Now, it is almost two
decades later. Right-wing liars dominate the media
conversation.
And this is largely due
to the fact that all but the right-wingers are still to this day
hen-pecked. There are serious discussions that should be had
regarding feminism. It's effects on America have been massive.
Yet to even question the subject is still forbidden.
Across the country,
newspapers and news programs are wondering why they can't get
readers or ratings. All the while, right-wing liars who sold
our country all of the policies that are running us into the ground
continue to get great ratings.
And the reason is, that
good citizens with concerns and disagreements about things like
feminism still have no voice anywhere outside of Limbaugh-liar-Land.
That is, until now.
Let me go on the record,
as a moderate independent - someone as opposed to the Limbaugh-liars
as one can get - as saying it is time for the good among us to get
some cajones and deal with the fact American feminism is a massive
problem in our society. The removal of women from the
traditional role of household cooks is centrally responsible for the
obesity epidemic. Rather than being packed healthy lunches and
coming home to mother-prepared meals, children and parents either
eat out or have to opt for pre-prepared, processed food. The
massive, fat-and-starch-ladened portions that one gets at
restaurants compared to what one would eat at home, and the lacking
nutrition and added calories of processed, pre-prepared foods and
hundreds - even thousands - of calories - and low-nutrition ones at
that - to the American diet on a daily basis.
In addition, without
mothers home, children sit around after school watching TV and
playing video games - and microwaving themselves high calorie, low
nutrition snacks. Gone is the order from Mom to, "Go out and
play," or the healthy little snack to tide a child over.
In addition, since there
is no longer a division of labor, both men and women now have more
on their plate. They both have full workdays, but while it
used to be after a workday a man could come home and relax with a
good meal and a home that had been tended to, now both men and women
have to do the cooking, shopping, cleaning, etc.on top of their work
efforts. The resulting combination of lack of free time and
physical and mental exhaustion has led parents to spend less time
and energy doing things with their children - and doing things
themselves. This has fostered the inactivity that has been the
other key to obesity.
Not very difficult
points to understand. But for some reason, a basic commentary
like the one I just made is absolutely forbidden throughout the
entire non-M/I media - save for right-wing-liar-land.
If the rest of the media
can't or won't say anything honest or useful, why would anyone read
it. Which is worse, the Limabaughs who lie to push an agenda,
or the rest of the media who ban true discussion.
The reality is, America
is being pounded by feminism, and then pounded by right-wing
propagandist nonsense because of a refusal of all other outlets to
usefully discuss the topic.
Where would the world be
without the non-biased, honesty based Moderate Independent, where no
subject is off-limits. The only things off-limits here are
cowardice and dishonesty.
American must begin to
address its feminism problem. As it is central to the obesity
epidemic, the havoc wreaked on micro-economic finances by feminism
has greatly contributed to America's massive personal debt problem,
which is a large part of the financial collapse that is now
occurring. And the obesity epidemic, combined with things like
having women cut their hair to shorter, manly lengths, has
contributed to weight- and sun-related cancers.
To clarify the point
about cancer, there are now reportedly 100,000 weight-related cancer
deaths every year in America, and there is a skin cancer epidemic,
neither of which is being discussed as a serious topic in the
non-M/I media. With regard to the skin cancer epidemic, the
largest part of the surprising increase leading to the current skin
cancer epidemic are cancers on the neck areas of women.
Reality is that female skin is more delicate than male skin, and
long hair had for years protected their more delicate necks from the
ravages of the sun. Now, told to be more manly, they are
suffering the consequences of denying the reality that they are, and
should be, different. To be specific, they are less tough,
skin-wise. They need long hair to protect their necks, and
they need to not get so much sun in general.
This is just an opening
of this discussion, and I am sure a number of M/I's readers will
take issue with my touching of this untouchable third rail. I
welcome your criticisms but also remind you - as all loyal M/I
readers know - M/I will never shy away from speaking the truth
because it may upset some person or group. M/I's mission is to
fill the void left by a media controlled by a mix of profit-seeking
corporations and right-wing agendists. At the Moderate
Independent, only two things matter: the truth, and what is
best for America.
Feminism as it stands in
America is a massive problem that needs to be addressed, and which
is playing a central role in the downward spiral America is
currently experiencing.
