It may seem insane, or at least surreal, at first.
Is it really possible that, in the blink of an eye, enough Americans
could instantly forget about the past eight years and the abysmal
realities we are currently dealing with as a result? Could the
mortgage crisis, the plunk, plunk, plunk of our major financial
institutions plunging from world-leading to complete bankruptcy, the
record number of personal bankruptcies each year, the war based on
lies that still hasn't even begun to end, the loss of place in the
world, the re-emergence of Russia as a result... could it be real
that all of that could instantly fly out of millions and millions of
Americans' minds because they see someone they like?
Could the still unfolding disaster of having an
underqualified, unwordly, religious-right serving Governor as
President for eight years suddenly disappear from the American
remembrance and people instantly line up for more of the same?
Could people be that insane?
You may notice how the pattern above directly
parallels that of a drug addict or alcoholic. When they drink
or do drugs, they do insane things, hurt the ones they love, get
arrested, get injured, humiliated, etc. When the see the mess
played out, they swear they're done with that. And yet, pop
another drink in front of them, and all of that disappears from
their mind. The reality of what happened last time they made
that choice completely leaves them, and the thought of, "That
(beer/drug) might be nice," takes over.
Do you know what the number 1, 2 and 3-rated TV shows
were this past year - as massive bank after massive bank collapsed,
as a War raged on into its fifth year against a cause that never
existed, as Global Warming and fuel prices grew without restraint?
The number 1, 2, and 3 shows were actually all the same:
American Idol, American Idol, and American Idol - three different
nights worth of it each ranking number one.
There's an article that permanently runs on the
bottom of The Moderate Independent website. You can go back to
the main page right now and it will be there. It talks about
how TV addiction is literally bringing the nation to collapse.
Most people don't really understand the point. They hear the
idea or read the article and go, "Oh yeah, TV is bad - watch too
much and you may put on some weight."
But that's not it at all. Literally, it is
exactly a drug addiction, an addiction to the flashing lights and
hypnotic alpha waves put out from the screen, a physical and mental
addiction that literally leads to the same things as other drug
addictions do: not just larger love handles, but detachment
from reality, anti-social behavior, physical changes, moodiness, and
ultimately real insanity.
People look at things like FOX News as if those are
the propaganda or mind-threatening parts of television, but it is
much, much deeper and more widespread than that. Think about
American Idol for example.
What is the idea of the show? No, it is not
people singing. It is that an average person who has lived
their life without direction, who is just another one of us, can
suddenly go on to become a massive world leader - internationally
known, winner of the highest awards, instant celebrity and riches,
IF... if they are chosen by the corporate judges to be on the show.
And the real message is not that this could happen to them, it's
that if my life is bad, if my country isn't working, if my job
doesn't pay enough to even get by, I get no vacation and so never
get to have time to enjoy life, if our children are off dying for
war and our nation is collapsing, I'm not going to be one of those
people that TV makes fun of who complains about these things - no,
I'll just think that my life could be made better at any second if
They just pick me. Because me, I'm special. Me.
Me. Me.
If you remember the biggest change of the Reagan era,
it was the creation of "The Me Generation." Screw my
countrymates. It's about me.
And now back to American Idol, and the Iraq War, and
Hurricane this or that. Nothing is real, none of it will
actually ever affect you, it is all just programming you get to
enjoy on your TV. And your problemmed life isn't a problem,
because in your mind you're about to be chosen by the judge on
American Idol, or Home Makeover, or... did you know Rupert Murdoch's
FOX Network - yes, the network that of course carries American Idol
- put out a casting notice in Hollywood recently looking for people
to participate in a new reality show. The topic? If you
tell a compelling story, the show will wipe out your debt for you.

Stop and think about that. Do you start to get
the picture.
Especially let's look again at that last sentence:
"Describe your personality and why you are a good
candidate for having your debts paid off."
Starting to sound a bit like Palin?
"Describe your personality and why you are a good
candidate..." Fill in the blank. The essence of Reality
TV is summed up there. All you need is the right personality
so that They decide you fit as a good candidate, and instantly, your
biggest worries can disappear, you can be thrust onto the world
stage and given fame and riches, you can, you can..."
Another casting notice went out a few months back -
they wanted a leading man type for a new show. Do you know
what the description read? "Not someone who would want to talk
about politics or anything like that; more like the type you would
want to have a beer with."
These are not news programs. This is not about
coverage of Palin or Obama or anything like that. Right on
schedule, FOX News owner Rupert Murdoch - who is not even from
America - rolls out another pile of dope for the American public.
Don't worry about debt being a problem or banks collapsing left and
right. Don't stop and think maybe we need to change our
policies, actually have working people make money, stop spending
beyond what we have, elect someone who will change America's
economic situation. Nope, just... keep watching TV. And
the Corporate people - if you act like we want you to, which means
no liberal commentaries, no questioning, no singing songs that are
actually about anything (the unspoken rule of American idol) - if
you just sit there some more, put on that pleasant, outgoing face
that is required by TV if you are to be chosen, and don't question,
complain, or have serious thoughts, if you simply "are energetic and
ready to do what it takes," we'll take care of you. And that's
all that matters. You. Don't worry about your country or
anything else.
As yet more hours go by. As millions more
Americans continue to just sit there. Staring at a box.
Having their adrenal glands and brains physically stimulated by
flashing lights - pay attention and you will see the constant
flashes between cuts, especially during commercials. By
alarming News Breaks. By shows about death and disease and
drama. By... by... And the only rule is never get
serious, always expect a happy ending, and... well, as a CBS exec
put it recently, "We want butts in seats." TV does not exist
to inform. It does not exist to entertain. It exists to
get ratings because more ratings equals more advertising dollars.
And it means more advertising dollars because you watching the
commercials means you will buy more of what you are being told to
buy by the TV, regardless of what is best for you, what you need, or
what you can afford.
That is the entirety of why TV exists, and why the
drug pushers won't let you off easily.
Now let's get to what is really playing out in
reality. This is what the non-addicts see: people
raising inactive children, sitting them in front of boxes, allowing
them too little activity and feeding them such low quality food in
such large amounts that they end up with diabetes before they even
get out of high school. We see grown adults overspending to
the point of bankruptcy, as a record number of Americans have been
doing for the last decade-plus, setting a new record for personal
bankruptcies basically each year. Intelligent humans eating
themselves into stroke, cancer, joint problems, and diabetes - 70
percent of Americans dangerously overweight, more than 75 million
fully obese.
Then tell me, if Americans know what the problems are
in their personal lives, but can't or won't make sane decisions to
fix these fixable things that threaten their lives and the lives of
those they love, is it so surprising they don't use sane, sound
thinking with regard to the country? If they, literally, can't
make choices and changes to save their own lives and those of their
children, how can you doubt they won't continue the same horrible
choices that they know can lead to the collapse of their nation,
even after being told if they don't change they/it may be finished?
