OTHER LESSONS YOU SHOULD TAKE FROM THE "SURPRISE" MELTDOWN

September 24, 2008  So how did all the experts get caught by "surprise" by this economic meltdown?

Fact is, they didn't.  That's right.  Writers at The Moderate Independent aren't geniuses or psychics.  What we write others say behind closed doors.  In fact, I personally heard an account rep from one of the firms that "surprisingly" went bankrupt tell a closed door group of clients months ago that this wouldn't just be a little recession, but that there was a debt beyond anything seen even before the great depression, and it would likely be a worse crash than the Japanese market crash - which is still only at 24% of where it was, and it is 20 years later.

And yet people from that same company, when talking as "experts" in the non-M/I media, said nothing of the sort.  As they were having their clients move more and more out of stocks and into cash equivalents because of a massive coming crash they knew was looming, they were in the media saying, hmm, don't know if there'll be a recession, maybe this little downturn like thing will be over in two months, maybe three.

Behind closed doors, the rep said plainly, clearly, that that was nonsense, and based on nothing related to the actual situation.

And, of course, his correctness was evidenced by his very company going completely kerplunk - by "surprise," as Paulson would tell us - it was one of the final four that led to the "bailout" proposal.

So the lesson of this crash is no surprise:  there are "experts" out there knowingly lying to us about things that will lead to all out catastrophes.  Which means the following things:

1)  Immediately stop using your cell phone.  Yes, "experts" tell you there is no elevated risk of brain cancer.  Despite the fact that recent studies show 50-100% increased risk in adults, five-fold or more risk in children.  Yes, for deadly brain cancer.  Five-fold.  (See UK Independent Article)

Odd, didn't hear that in our news.

Yes, some older studies and long term ones didn't show that risk.  Here's a clue:  cell phones used to have antennas.  For some reason (prettiness I guess,) now the antennas are all internal.  As in right up against your head as you speak.  That few inches of difference has completely changed the ballgame.  Don't wait for the "experts" or the media to give you permission or the go ahead:  stop now.  For real.

2)  Global warming.  Need I say anything more than that?  What bogus bailout plan will be available?  We are 10 years behind when we needed to act.  Like people have called Congress about this bailout plan, they need to burn the lines down right now.  Really.

3)  200 million Americans are dangerously overweight.  The word "dangerously" is real.   90,000 preventable, weight-caused cancer deaths each year.  Currently.  (See MSNBC article.)  Stroke among women aged 35-54 has increased 300% over a five year period.  (See Newsweek article.)

Before we even get to diabetes or heart diseases.  90,000 people dying annually from this situation.  That's like thirty 9/11's a year.  And nothing.  No serious call to action, never mind action.  My advice again:  um, don't wait.  Act now.  For real.  With all seriousness and desperation to fix the fixable.

Thing is, as you can see, with all of these situations and others, it is not that The Moderate Independent has secret information.  It is just there is a ban on speaking actual truth anywhere else.  Nothing is allowed to be put together or raised seriously.  Why?  It would upset you, and so make you change the channel.

In India yesterday, a group of laid-off workers beat a CEO to death.  They had stood up against the company using them as part-time workers, and so not giving them job security or benefits.  He laid them off.  A mob formed and beat him to death.  (See UK Times article)

Americans have let corporations do that to us for decades now.  In fact, we made Wal-Mart number one for doing it.  Made Manpower Inc., a temp agency, the number one employer in the nation.

Too bad TV isn't as interesting in India, or they could be collapsing soon, too.  And that CEO could still be alive to give himself nine-figure bonuses for the next years.  And then sit there laughing as he gets handed billions more in a bailout.
